Downtown San Diego is in a moment of great change as momentum grows around the mayor’s plans to redevelop the Civic Center. TAAE/ATAEA organized a daylong charette with 50 students and faculty from the 9 schools to explore the possibilities, new visions, and share and discuss ideas in a series of design sprints facilitated by San Diego architects. The themes explored included sustainable infrastructures, arts and culture, regional transportation, building reuse and climate action, housing as a human right, and civicness. The event was supported by Carrier Johnson + CULTURE and is being developed into a second Civic Center Conversation during San Diego Design Week and subsequent public exhibition.
