Converging Horizons

Converging Horizons is a two-day symposium organized by the Transborder Association of Architectural Education (TAAE) that aims to explore the past, present, and future of architectural education in the San Diego-Tijuana region. This event brings together students, educators, professionals, and community members from both sides of the border to dialogue and engage in collaborative efforts to address the unique challenges and opportunities of the border region. The symposium will be held on October 24th at CEART (Centro Estatal de las Artes Tijuana) in Tijuana and on October 25th at MOPA (Museum of Photographic Art) in Balboa Park, San Diego.

As part of the World Design Capital 2024 Legacy Program, the symposium includes a series of panel discussions, workshops, and an exhibition highlighting the work of TAAE initiatives, addressing architectural education and practice within this binational context. By fostering cultural exchange and promoting a holistic understanding of the border region’s interconnected nature, Converging Horizons seeks to redefine the role of architectural education and community engagement in fostering social equity, environmental sustainability, and cultural integration.

Converging Horizons is designed to create a lasting legacy and potentially become a biennial event to strengthen cross-border relationships. The outcomes of this symposium will contribute to TAAE’s ongoing mission to create a collaborative and inclusive architectural ecosystem that transcends national boundaries and addresses the complex realities of the borderlands.
