Converging horizons

Converging Horizons is a two-day symposium organized by the Transborder Architectural Education Association (ATEA) that aims to explore the past, present, and future of architectural education in the San Diego-Tijuana region. This event brings together students, educators, professionals, and community members from both sides of the border to dialogue and engage in collaborative efforts to address the unique challenges and opportunities of the border region. The symposium will be held on October 24 at CEART (Centro Estatal de las Artes Tijuana) in Tijuana and on October 25 at MOPA (Museo de Arte Fotográfico) in Balboa Park, San Diego.’

As part of the World Design Capital 2024 Legacy Program, the symposium includes a series of panel discussions, workshops, and an exhibition highlighting the work of ATEA initiatives, addressing architectural education and practice in this binational context. By fostering cultural exchange and promoting a holistic understanding of the interconnected nature of the border region, Converging Horizons aims to redefine the role of architectural education and community engagement in fostering social equity, environmental sustainability, and cultural integration.

Converging Horizons is designed to create a lasting legacy and potentially become a biennial event that strengthens cross-border relationships. The outcomes of this symposium will contribute to ATEA’s ongoing mission of creating a collaborative and integrative architectural ecosystem that transcends national boundaries and addresses the complex realities of borderlands.
